Jake’s practice focuses primarily on the defense of medical malpractice and catastrophic personal injury litigation.  He also provides extensive consultation in licensing and professional disciplinary matters, including healthcare credentialing and representation of providers in matters before regulatory bodies such as the North Carolina Medical Board, North Carolina Board of Pharmacy, North Carolina Board of Nursing, and the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners.

Born and raised just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jake moved to North Carolina to attend Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  Jake is a lifelong Wake Forest basketball fan, and has suffered through years of pain associated with such loyalty.  In 2005, he graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law.  He began his legal career in Florida, specializing in litigation and practicing at two of the larger firms in the state.  Jake returned to North Carolina in 2014 where he became a partner with Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP while working primarily with the medical malpractice defense group.  In 2020, he joined Walker Allen as a partner where he heads the firm’s Charlotte office.

While practicing in Florida, he represented the Securities Investor Protection Corporation in the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC after one of the largest financial frauds in recorded history. Jake worked diligently and effectively on behalf of the victims in recovering their previously usurped assets. Jake also has years of experience successfully defending and representing physicians, hospitals, practice groups, and other health care providers in lawsuits, regulatory matters, as well as in a variety of other legal disputes.    His clients rely on his experience, judgment, and ability to provide exceptional guidance.  He has successfully represented hundreds of clients in both state and federal courts in North Carolina and Florida involving a myriad of different issues.

Whether consulting with his clients on a variety of personal and professional matters, or aggressively litigating on their behalf, Jake takes great pride in his commitment to hard work as well as an uncompromising dedication to the interests of his clients.   Jake adamantly believes that every client, and every matter, deserves his very best regardless of the legal issue involved or amount in controversy.

When Jake is not working, he enjoys reading, golf, coaching youth sports, and, most importantly, spending time with his wife, Christie, and two children, Kate and Luke.  He is a member of Carmel Baptist Church in Matthews, North Carolina.
