Dennis has devoted the majority of his legal career to representing and defending healthcare facilities, physicians, physician extenders, and nurses in professional liability matters. He also actively represents healthcare providers in regulatory matters, including investigations by the North Carolina Medical Board, the North Carolina Board of Nursing, and the Food & Drug Administration, among others. Dennis also actively represents healthcare facilities in premises liability and other general liability matters.

Dennis brings two unique perspectives to his healthcare liability practice. First, his wife is a practicing physician, so he has an insider’s perspective on the great lengths healthcare providers take to provide care for their patients. Second, he previously worked in the claims department of a national liability insurance carrier. As such, he has additional perspective and understanding regarding how liability claims are handled and viewed at the carrier level.

Dennis is originally from the North Carolina foothills in Cleveland County. While growing up on his great-grandfather’s farm, the values of hard work, dedication, and perseverance were instilled in him by his parents, teachers, and coaches. Now, with the benefit of hindsight, Dennis knows that it was these early years that taught him how hard work and dedication will always be the root of success – whether it is in the classroom, the ball field, or now, the courtroom.

Through his academic achievements, Dennis was able to attend Appalachian State University on a full academic scholarship as a Chancellor’s Scholar. He graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Risk Management and Insurance with departmental honors where his thesis focused on tackling rising healthcare costs. Dennis was the first member of his family to graduate from college. He then obtained his law degree from the Campbell University School of Law, where he graduated cum laude. While in law school, he focused his legal education on trial advocacy, and he was also a staff writer for the Campbell Law Observer.

He is licensed to practice in North Carolina and has handled matters at all levels of the North Carolina court system – from Magistrate’s Court all the way to the Supreme Court. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina and the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.

Dennis is an active member of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, the North Carolina Association of Healthcare Risk Managers, the Defense Research Institute and the North Carolina Bar Association.

Outside of the office, Dennis enjoys spending time with his wife and their daughter. He is an avid college football fan, and most Saturdays during the fall, you can find him by following the trail of smoke wafting through the air from his smoker where he is honing his craft as an amateur barbecue pit master.
